Yang Honghai, Kia’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) in China, revealed on his Weibo account that the inaugural Kia EV5 smart electric SUV was rolled out at the assembly plant in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, at the end of November.
The official unveiling of the Kia EV5 took place earlier this month at the 2023 Guangzhou Auto Show. The EV5 is available in three trim levels: the 530Light edition priced at 149,800 yuan (approximately $22,713), the 530Air edition at 159,800 yuan (approximately $24,394), and the 530Land edition at 174,800 yuan (approximately $26,166).
The long-range version of the EV5 is scheduled to join the lineup in March next year, while the GT-Line edition is expected to be added in July. Measuring 4,615mm in length, 1,875mm in width, 1,715mm in height, and with a wheelbase of 2,750mm, the Kia EV5 is equipped with BYD’s Blade Battery and a 160kW electric motor.
The interior boasts a dynamic ambient lighting system offering 64 colors, along with a large panoramic sunroof. Additionally, the rear seats feature foldable tray tables, a 4-liter central drawer-type refrigerator, a semi-circular storage space in the center console, hidden hooks, and detachable storage compartments.
For safety, the vehicle comes with seven airbags, an L2+ advanced driver assistance system, semi-automatic lane changing, and remote intelligent parking functions.
Moreover, it supports OTA (Over-The-Air) functionality, UWB digital keys, next-generation entertainment systems, and a heat pump air conditioner.
Built on the E-GMP platform, the EV5 is equipped with a 64.2kWh battery pack and a 160kW electric motor, providing a driving range of 530km (CLTC). The long-range trim, equipped with an 88.1kWh battery pack, offers a range of 720km.
