We recently shared spy pictures of Hyundai’s IONIQ 6 facelift courtesy of our colleagues at Baldauf captured a new prototype near Hyundai Motor Technical Center in Germany, with expected changes to the most criticized part, the front end. Now our colleagues at NYMammoth created a new rendering applying this changes, what do you think?

Key Development and Production Timelines

Hyundai plans to start the production of the first prototype model of the new all-electric streamliner next month. By February next year, the development of the mass-production model is expected to be completed, with production beginning in May. The European model’s production is scheduled for August next year, and the North American model will follow in November.

The production of the new IONIQ 6 will be handled by Hyundai’s Asan plant in Korea. The annual production target is set at 66,000 units, including 6,000 units of the high performance variant. There is also a possibility that the North American model might be produced locally at Hyundai’s new electric vehicle plant in Georgia (HMGMA) to qualify for subsidies.

Enhanced Design and Battery Capacity

The new IONIQ 6 will feature enhanced interior and exterior design details to improve overall quality. Additionally, it will offer increased battery capacity, aiming to provide one of the best single-charge driving ranges in its class.

The current model, with its 77.4 kWh battery and excellent aerodynamic performance, was the first Hyundai electric vehicle to achieve a single-charge driving range of over 600 km. By increasing the battery capacity to 84 kWh, similar to the new IONIQ 5, the new IONIQ 6 could achieve 700 km of range thanks to a new generation battery pack and an excellent aerodynamics.

High-Performance IONIQ 6 N Model

Following the launch of the updated model in May, Hyundai plans to introduce its first high-performance model in the line-up, the IONIQ 6 N, in September next year as we already informed. This will be Hyundai’s second high-performance N electric vehicle, following the IONIQ 5 N. The annual production target for the IONIQ 6 N is 6,000 units.

The N variant is expected to serve as an ‘image leading car,’ showcasing Hyundai’s technological prowess, much like the IONIQ 5 N, which received acclaim and won numerous car of the year awards worldwide since its release last year.

Conclusion

Hyundai is set to significantly enhance its electric vehicle lineup with the new IONIQ 6, offering improved design, increased battery capacity, and an extended driving range. The introduction of the high-performance IONIQ 6 N model further demonstrates Hyundai’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the electric vehicle market. Keep an eye out for these exciting developments from Hyundai next year.
