Back in May, during the EV3 world premiere, Kia has announced the development of a high-performance model, the ‘EV3 GT,’ to be equipped with dual motors (the regular EV3 only has a single motor) and now our colleagues at Healer TV captured the first prototype.
Kia EV3 GT: A Glimpse into the Future
Kia’s domestic product manager, Ha-Jun Seo, responded to inquiries about the EV3 GT’s release plans, stating, “We are preparing a high-performance model for the EV3,” and hinted that the launch might occur in the latter half of next year. While specific details are yet to be disclosed, the EV3 GT will distinguish itself from the standard model, which features a front-only motor, by incorporating electric motors on both the front and rear, resulting in an all-wheel-drive system. With a generous battery capacity of 81.4 kWh, the EV3 GT is expected to deliver performance comparable to the previously released EV6 GT.
Performance and Specifications: A Comparative Insight
The Kia EV6 GT boasts impressive specs, combining a 270 kW (approximately 367 hp) rear motor with a 160 kW (approximately 218 hp) front motor, producing a total output of 450 kW (approximately 585 hp). This power allows the EV6 GT to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. Unlike other manufacturers that include gearboxes to enhance speed, Kia uses a high-performance motor that can reach up to 21,000 RPM, achieving a top speed of 260 km/h.
Anticipated Design and Features
The GT variant is expected to undergo some design modifications. Spy shots of the test car reveal a more aggressive bumper design and the use of 19-inch tires, in contrast to the 17-inch tires on the standard model aimed at maximizing driving range.
Expanding the High-Performance Lineup
In addition to the EV3 GT, Kia is also preparing the EV9 GT. The EV9 GT will similarly feature a high-performance dual motor setup, achieving a 0-100 km/h time in the 4-second range. With the release of the EV9 and EV3 GT, Kia will offer high-performance versions of all three of its dedicated electric vehicles.
Conclusion
Kia’s commitment to innovation and performance is evident in its upcoming EV3 GT and EV9 GT models. As the EV market continues to grow, Kia is poised to provide a compelling blend of practicality, affordability, and high performance, ensuring its place as a leader in the electric vehicle industry.
