We have advanced that Genesis were set to unveil its first high-performance electric vehicle (EV), the GV60 Magma, under its Magma program in 2025 and now the company confirmed it during the GMR-001 event held in Dubai. Confirmed by Mike Song, Global Head of Genesis, the GV60 Magma will debut in the Middle East next year.
Pushing the Boundaries of Luxury EVs
The GV60 Magma, derived from the all-electric GV60, is designed as the ultimate performance model for Genesis’ growing lineup. At a press conference held in Dubai, Choi Sang-won, Chief Product and Strategy Officer for Genesis, described the vehicle as “the pinnacle of performance for our brand.”
This ambitious project is a testament to Genesis’ commitment to innovation in the luxury EV sector. While additional models in the Magma series are planned, Genesis has yet to announce specific timelines. The next significant milestone following the Middle East launch will be the GV60 Magma’s introduction in South Korea.
A Global-First Strategy
Genesis is breaking from tradition by debuting its high-performance lineup on the global stage rather than starting in its home market of Korea. Song Min-gyu, Global Head of Genesis, explained the rationale behind this approach:
“We’re starting outside of Korea to create success stories in key international markets, which we can then bring back home.”
The Middle East was strategically chosen for the GV60 Magma’s launch. Known for its appetite for luxury and performance vehicles, the region provides an ideal stage to showcase Genesis’ capabilities and build global momentum.
Motorsports-Inspired Design
The Magma lineup is also shaping the design philosophy for Genesis’ future vehicles. The automaker is drawing heavily from its recent entry into motorsports, with race-proven insights influencing production car designs. Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Hyundai Motor Group, emphasized this connection, citing the recently unveiled GMR-001 hypercar as a prime example:
“When we develop high-performance race cars, it reshapes how we approach design for our entire lineup. The DNA of Magma Racing is already filtering into our mass-production models.”
