Hyundai Motor Company is set to participate in the prestigious ‘Attack Tsukuba 2025’ with its high-performance EV, the IONIQ 5 N TA Spec. The competition will take place on February 15 at the Tsukuba Circuit Course 2000 in Japan, where Hyundai will enter the ‘Racing Car & Slick Tire Class.’

Tsukuba Circuit: A Time Attack Racing Legacy

Located just an hour north of Tokyo, the Tsukuba Circuit has been hosting the ‘Attack Tsukuba’ Time Attack racing event since 1994. Unlike traditional races that feature multiple vehicles competing simultaneously, Time Attack racing focuses on recording the fastest lap time to determine rankings, making it a true test of speed and performance.

IONIQ 5 N TA Spec: Performance Upgrades for Maximum Speed

The IONIQ 5 N TA Spec retains the core components of the production model, including its chassis and motor, while undergoing essential modifications to unlock its full racing potential. Key enhancements include:

  • Increased rear motor output through software tuning, boosting total power to 687 PS (with an additional 37 PS in the rear motor).
  • Upgraded suspension with new shock absorbers.
  • Motorsport-grade braking system.
  • 18-inch Yokohama ADVAN 005 slick tires for superior grip.
  • A high-downforce aerodynamic package designed for optimal performance on the track.

Proven Performance: Record-Breaking Success at Pikes Peak

The TA Spec has already demonstrated its capabilities on the global stage. In June 2024, the vehicle set a new record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in the U.S., completing the challenging course in 9 minutes, 30.852 seconds. This achievement secured a class victory and set a new record for electric conversion vehicles.

Collaboration with Japanese Racing Star Nobuteru Taniguchi

For ‘Attack Tsukuba 2025,’ Hyundai has partnered with renowned Japanese racing driver Nobuteru Taniguchi. A multiple-time record holder in the event, Taniguchi has an extensive motorsports background, including success in Super GT and various Japanese racing competitions. His expertise will be instrumental in pushing the IONIQ 5 N TA Spec to break new EV records at Tsukuba.
