For decades, the ultra-luxury SUV segment was a European stronghold. To see a vehicle with “monolithic” grace and rear-hinged doors was a privilege reserved for the owners of a Rolls-Royce Cullinan. However, a new set of spy photos of the Genesis GV90 P1 (Production 1) prototype, thanks to our colleagues at ShortsCar, has just changed the game. For the first time, we have a clear, close-up look at the integrated coach door handles, confirming that the “theatrical entry” of the Neolun Concept is officially moving to the showroom floor.
The “Center-Meet” Handle: A New Signature
The most significant revelation from the latest P1 sighting is the placement and design of the door hardware. Unlike standard SUVs where handles are spaced apart, the GV90 P1 features dual flush-mounted handles meeting at the center of the vehicle’s flank.
- The Design: These handles are finished in high-polish chrome and sit perfectly flush with the bodywork for aerodynamic efficiency.
- The Mechanism: As a “P1” prototype—meaning it is 95% production-ready—the sighting confirms these are motorized pop-out handles.
- The Statement: By placing the handles side-by-side, Genesis confirms the B-pillarless coach doorconfiguration. When the doors retract, they open in opposite directions to reveal a vast, pillarless “open lounge” interior.
Engineering the Impossible: The B-Pillarless Challenge
Seeing the physical handles in their production location is the final proof that Genesis has conquered one of the greatest engineering hurdles in modern automotive design.
Without a center B-pillar to latch onto, Genesis engineers had to integrate the latching mechanism directly into the floor and roof structures. The presence of these finalized handles suggests that the structural integrity and side-impact safety of the pillarless design have officially met global production standards.
A Commanding Presence: 24-Inch “Dish” Wheels
Complementing the new door hardware is the first look at the production-spec wheels. The GV90 P1 sits on massive 24-inch alloy wheels, the largest ever fitted to a Korean production car.
| Feature | Specification (Estimated) |
| Wheel Size | 24-Inch |
| Platform | eM Dedicated EV Platform |
| Battery Capacity | 113kWh+ |
| Range | 400-500 miles (643-804 km) WLTP |
| Horsepower | 500 – 600 hp (Dual Motor) |
The eM Platform: Power to Match the Poise
The GV90 isn’t just a design study; it’s a technical powerhouse. Built on the next-generation eM platform, the P1 prototype features:
- Rear-Wheel Steering: Essential for maneuvering a vehicle of this scale through tight urban environments.
- 800V Architecture: Enabling ultra-fast charging that can add hundreds of miles of range in under 20 minutes.
- The “Ondol” Interior: While the handles get you inside, the cabin features radiant heating and rotatable “swivel” seats that turn the SUV into a mobile living room.
Market Positioning: A New Price Frontier
With the official debut set for late 2026, the GV90 is poised to shift the brand’s ceiling. While the base model may hover around $100,000, the specialized Coach Door / Prestige edition—the one featuring those iconic center-meeting handles—is expected to command a price tag of $175,000 or more.
