This “P1” stage is a critical milestone in Hyundai’s development cycle, signaling that the vehicle has moved past initial test mules and into its first mass-produced pre-production form.
What is a P1 Prototype?
In Hyundai’s production timeline, the P1 (Prototype 1) stage represents the first version of the vehicle built using production-intent parts and tooling. These vehicles are used for rigorous real-world testing to identify any manufacturing or software glitches before the P2 and P3 stages lead to the final market-ready version.
Design Evolution: A Sharper Aesthetic
The latest spy shots reveal that Hyundai is doubling down on its “Sensuous Sportiness” design language, but with a more refined, premium edge.
- Front Fascia: While heavily camouflaged, the P1 prototype suggests a more integrated grille and headlight assembly. The new look is expected to become even more angular, potentially adopting a big H Lamp bar for the DRL lights while the main headlights will be below, like this was an SUV.
- New Side Profile: Similar to what we have seen in the Grandeur, Hyundai appears to be applying a more retro design with its characteristic C-pillar design.
- Rear Profile: The signature H-Tailgate lighting is expected to receive a sophisticated 3D update, giving the sedan a wider, more planted stance.
Interior Technology: The Digital Leap
The 2027 Elantra is set to undergo a massive interior transformation to keep pace with the increased chinese competition.
- Pleos OS & Gleo AI: The new Elantra will feature the Pleos Operating System, an Android-based interface that supports a wide array of third-party apps. It will also debut Gleo, Hyundai’s next-generation AI assistant, capable of processing complex natural language commands.
- No Curved Display: The new system uses a 9.9-inch small rectangular cluster in the top of the dashboard, while the infotainment screen now grows to a new 17-inch screen that will be the center of the experience.
