Genesis has officially entered the elite arena of global motorsport with the unveiling of the GMR-001 Hypercar. Set to represent the brand in its inaugural season of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the GMR-001 is a masterpiece of rapid engineering, blending high-performance racing technology with the refined aesthetics of the Genesis road car lineup.
Athletic Elegance Meets Aerodynamic Precision
The GMR-001 proudly bears the “Designed by Genesis” signature on its bodywork, a testament to the collaboration between the Genesis Design Center and renowned chassis partner ORECA. The car embodies the brand’s “Athletic Elegance” philosophy, pushed to the limits of LMDh technical regulations.
Key design features include:
- Two-Line Headlamps: A direct nod to Genesis road cars, these lights were rigorously validated during night testing at the Circuit Internacional do Algarve.
- Fluid Aerodynamics: The silhouette features long, flowing lines designed to minimize drag while maintaining the luxury brand’s visual identity.
- Wing Logo: The iconic Genesis wing logo sits prominently on the nose, solidifying its status as a factory-backed contender.
Proven Power: The G8MR 3.2l Turbo V8
Despite a demanding development window for the 2026 season, Genesis Magma Racing hit every critical milestone. At the heart of the GMR-001 is the Genesis G8MR 3.2l Turbo V8. This power unit is rooted in the high-performance 4-cylinder engine used by Hyundai Motorsport in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC).
“Working with ORECA and leveraging their experience was a natural choice,” said Team Principal Cyril Abiteboul. “Using the base Hyundai Motorsport WRC engine gave us a strong, proven foundation to meet our aggressive deadlines.”

Rigorous Testing and Reliability
The development team prioritized durability from the first “fire-up” in February 2025. Following the marriage of the chassis and powertrain in August 2025, the team embarked on an intensive 25,000-kilometer testing program.
| Milestone | Achievement |
| Total Test Distance | ~25,000 km across WEC-representative circuits |
| Engine Longevity | Single unit completed a vital 9,000 km target |
| Variable Conditions | Successful wet-weather simulation at Magny-Cours |
Chief Engineer Justin Taylor emphasized that the focus is on consistent potential: “Our first target this season is to finish races—no problems, no penalties. From there, we aim for Hyperpole appearances and top-five finishes on pure pace.”
A Livery Rooted in Korean Heritage
Genesis makes history as the first Korean manufacturer to enter the WEC. To celebrate this, the GMR-001 features a livery that balances modern racing aesthetics with cultural pride.
- Hangul Branding: The car features the Korean lettering for “Magma” (마그마).
- Geometric Logo: The consonants ㅁ, ㄱ, and ㅁ inspired the team’s geometric logo.
- Signature Color: The cars will sport the vibrant Magma orange on the engine cover.
Luc Donckerwolke, Hyundai Motor Group President and CCO, noted: “As a Korean manufacturer, we wanted to honor our roots. The use of hangul became a strong graphic identifier that extends beyond the car to our garage and team uniforms.”
As the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship approaches, the Genesis Magma Racing GMR-001 stands ready to bridge the gap between luxury design and world-class endurance performance.
