Genesis, the premium arm of Hyundai Motor Group, has officially confirmed that its future lineup of hybrid and Extended Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs) is already undergoing road testing. While specific launch dates remain under wraps, the company emphasizes that these electrified models are progressing rapidly and represent the next evolution in the brand’s premium mobility strategy.

Genesis Hybrid Models Are on the Horizon

In a recent exclusive preview, Genesis executives revealed they have already begun test-driving their future hybrid and EREV models, signaling that development is well underway.

“Believe it or not, a couple of days ago we had a test drive of our future lineup with hybrid propulsion. This is going full steam,” a company spokesperson stated. “We are working intensively to bring it sooner rather than later. And this is really advanced technology.”

Although the company has yet to confirm a production timeline, it’s clear that Genesis is preparing to enter the hybrid and EREV market segment with premium offerings that blend efficiency, luxury, and performance.

What Makes Genesis EREVs Different?

Genesis’ upcoming EREVs aim to combine the instant torque and quiet driving experience of electric vehicles with the long-range capabilities of internal combustion engines. This setup allows drivers to enjoy daily EV driving while avoiding the stress of long-range trip planning.

“You can use it as an EV on a daily basis, but if you have to take a long trip… it provides seamless driving with the ICE generating electricity for you,” the company explained.

This range-extending technology ensures that Genesis drivers can travel long distances — like from San Francisco to Las Vegas — without worrying about charging station availability. It’s a practical solution that provides EV benefits with the freedom of traditional driving.

Towing Power: A Key Advantage of Genesis EREVs

Beyond range, Genesis is also addressing a major shortcoming in the current EV market: towing capacity.

“There’s also the ample power for towing capacity — the energy to tow something like a horse trailer — which remains an unsolved issue with EVs,” the company added.

This means that future Genesis EREVs will not only be luxurious and efficient but also capable and versatile — ideal for customers who demand performance without compromise.

When Will Genesis Hybrid Models Be Available?

While Genesis hasn’t shared an official release date, the confirmation of ongoing test drives strongly suggests that production is near. The automaker reassures customers that the wait won’t be long:

“Now is not the right moment to reveal the exact date… but I promise you, we are working intensively to bring it sooner rather than later.”

What This Means for the Premium EV Market

Genesis entering the hybrid and EREV space signals a shift in the luxury EV landscape. With its commitment to advanced propulsion technology, refined design, and premium driving experience, Genesis is poised to challenge established players and capture attention from discerning drivers worldwide.
