Recent spy shots from the Arctic Circle thanks to our colleagues at SH Proshots have provided our most detailed look yet at the upcoming Genesis G80 Hybrid. As testing continues in extreme sub-zero conditions, we have uncovered critical details regarding its architecture, interior technology, and why this hybrid sedan is set to return to be Genesis’s best-selling model.
No PLEOS: The 27-Inch Integrated OLED Display Remains
One of the most significant discoveries from the latest interior sightings is the absence of the rumored “PLEOS” (next-generation cockpit architecture) for this specific iteration. Instead, the G80 Hybrid will carry on with the highly acclaimed 27-inch integrated OLED display.
This expansive screen, which blends the instrument cluster and infotainment system into a single seamless unit, remains a hallmark of Genesis luxury. By sticking with this proven, high-resolution hardware, Genesis ensures that the hybrid model maintains the same sophisticated aesthetic as the current refreshed G80 lineup while focusing engineering efforts on the new powertrain.
Confirmed: Exclusively Long Wheelbase (LWB)
The test vehicle, captured during high-altitude and cold-weather validation, reveals that the first-ever Genesis G80 Hybrid will be available exclusively in a Long Wheelbase (LWB) configuration.
This is a strategic move by Genesis to position the hybrid not just as an efficient alternative, but as a rear-seat-focused flagship. Key indicators include:
- Electronic Rear Door Buttons: Borrowed from the flagship G90, these buttons are typically reserved for chauffeur-driven models where rear-passenger convenience is paramount.
- Underbody Battery Packaging: The battery pack is clearly visible beneath the front passenger area. Utilizing the LWB structure allows Genesis to integrate these heavy hybrid components without sacrificing rear legroom or the signature “Magic Carpet” ride quality.

The “RG3 HEV” Powertrain: 2.5T Dual-Motor System
The prototype carries the internal designation “RG3 HEV.” This confirms that the third-generation G80 is being optimized for Hyundai Motor Group’s next-generation P1 + P2 parallel hybrid system.
Performance Specs
The heart of the G80 Hybrid is a 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with two electric motors:
- P1 Motor: Manages engine starts and efficiency optimization.
- P2 Motor: Located between the transmission and engine to provide a significant performance boost.
- Expected Output: Approximately 362 Horsepower and 46.9 kgf·m of torque.
Class-Leading Efficiency and EV Features
Despite its size and luxury status, the G80 Hybrid aims for massive efficiency gains. Early data suggests a 45% improvement in fuel economy over standard gasoline models. Thanks to its aerodynamic sedan profile, the G80 LWB is expected to exceed the 13.5 km/L (31.8 mpg) currently projected for the GV80 Hybrid SUV, potentially offering a total driving range of over 1,100 km.
Premium Tech Borrowed from EVs:
- V2L (Vehicle-to-Load): Capable of supplying 3.6 kW of power for external devices.
- Stay Mode: Allows the use of climate control and infotainment while parked without the gasoline engine idling.
Release Timeline
While the GV80 Hybrid is expected to arrive in mid-2026, the Genesis G80 Hybrid (LWB Only) is slated for an official launch in Q4 2026. With its combination of an ultra-wide OLED cockpit, massive rear-seat legroom, and a powerful 362-hp hybrid system, the G80 Hybrid is shaping up to be the ultimate executive cruiser for the electrified era.
