Hyundai Motor Company has officially ignited a new era of electrification in Asia, launching its dedicated IONIQ lineup brand in China. Ahead of Auto China 2026 (the Beijing Auto Show), the company unveiled two groundbreaking design concepts—the VENUS and EARTH—signaling a bold strategic pivot to capture the world’s most competitive New Energy Vehicle (NEV) market.

A New “Universe” for Chinese Mobility

Hyundai’s strategy for China extends far beyond selling electric cars. The brand is redefining IONIQ as a comprehensive mobility experience tailored specifically to local preferences.

One of the most distinctive elements of this localized strategy is the new “Planet” naming convention. In this “IONIQ Universe,” future models will be named after celestial bodies, symbolizing the vehicle’s role in “orbiting” around the customer, who remains the central focus of the driving experience.

“Built on IONIQ’s uncompromising principles of world-class safety and quality, we will soon introduce production models that seamlessly combine the smart driving and smart cabin experiences that Chinese consumers demand.” — Li Fenggang, President at Beijing Hyundai Motor Company

Meet the Concepts: VENUS and EARTH

The two concept cars serve as a design “barometer” for future production models. Both utilize a striking single-curve silhouette that aligns with the brand ethos: “Lead, don’t follow.”

1. VENUS: The Iconic Sedan

Inspired by the brilliance of the morning star, the VENUS concept is a trend-setting sedan designed to make a “Best in First Impression.”

  • Exterior: Finished in Radiant Gold, featuring a lightweight frame-structured roof and a transparent spoiler.
  • Interior: A wrap-around cockpit with layered mood lighting. It features a high-contrast material palette of soft suede and chrome-gold, accompanied by “Lumi,” an integrated digital character that creates a playful bond between car and driver.

2. EARTH: The Powerful Family SUV

The EARTH concept embodies the biological balance and vitality of our home planet, focusing on dependability and space.

  • Exterior: Coated in Aurora Shield paint, the SUV balances sharp, futuristic edges with rugged details like exposed bolt accents and skid plates.
  • Interior: Designed as a “small Earth,” the cabin features “air-hug” seats and “shy-tech” elements. Subtle design cues, such as hidden map patterns of Beijing and a character named “Aero,” provide a sense of local discovery.

Redefining Technology for the Chinese Market

Hyundai is not just bringing global tech to China; it is building China-specific solutions. To stay ahead in the NEV race, Hyundai is focusing on:

  • Autonomous Driving: Collaborating with local partners to integrate advanced self-driving systems.
  • EREVs (Extended Range Electric Vehicles): Adopting market-specific powertrain solutions to address range anxiety.
  • Smart Cabins: Prioritizing the high-tech, connected interior environments that Chinese consumers prioritize.

Global Excellence, Local Execution

The IONIQ brand already carries immense global prestige. With the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 sweeping the World Car Awards, and the IONIQ 6 N recently crowned the 2026 World Performance Car, Hyundai is leveraging its proven engineering prowess to build trust with Chinese buyers.

By blending this global track record with deep local insights, Hyundai aims to set a new direction for the industry—positioning itself as “The Origin” of a new movement in sustainable mobility.

What’s Next?

The full details of the IONIQ rollout and technical specifications will be revealed during the Hyundai Motor Press Conference at Auto China 2026.

  • Date: April 24, 2026
  • Location: Hall E4, China International Exhibition Center (Shunyi Hall), Beijing

Stay tuned as Hyundai “Opens Your Universe” and challenges the status quo of the Chinese electric vehicle market.
