Hyundai has unveiled the STARIA Camper Concept at the CMT (Caravan, Motor und Touristik) trade fair in Stuttgart, following the successful world premiere of STARIA Electric at the Brussels Motor Show. The concept demonstrates how Hyundai’s futuristic STARIA MPV could evolve into a premium all-electric camper van, developed specifically to meet the needs of European customers.

Derived from the latest Hyundai STARIA people carrier, the Camper Concept benefits from refreshed exterior styling, an updated interior, improved driving dynamics, and enhanced onboard technologies. If approved for series production, it would be offered as a fully electric camper, based on the STARIA Electric platform.

Why Hyundai Is Developing an Electric Camper Concept

The introduction of the STARIA Camper Concept comes at a time when electric mobility and experiential travel are accelerating across Europe. Customers increasingly want vehicles that combine daily usability with the freedom to travel independently, comfortably, and sustainably.

By showcasing the concept at CMT Stuttgart, one of Europe’s most influential caravan and leisure vehicle exhibitions, Hyundai is actively inviting feedback from camping, caravan, and adventure enthusiasts. This real-world input will help assess market interest in STARIA as a camper vehicle and may shape the development of a production-ready electric camper van.

Key Highlights of the Hyundai STARIA Camper Concept

Designed to enhance comfort, relaxation, and ease of use while travelling, the STARIA Camper Concept brings together Hyundai’s experience in specialist vehicle engineering with a clear focus on real-world camper requirements.

Power-Operated Pop-Up Roof with Aerodynamic Efficiency

A defining feature of the concept is its fully integrated, power-operated pop-up roof, which creates a brighter and more open living space when parked while improving access to the kitchen area. The roof has been engineered to maintain STARIA’s aerodynamic efficiency, helping to reduce wind noise and buffeting while driving.

Finished in the same high-quality, body-coloured material as the standard roof, the system can be raised or lowered effortlessly at the touch of a button, reinforcing the vehicle’s premium positioning.

Off-Grid Capability with Integrated Solar Power

For travellers seeking independence beyond traditional campsites, the STARIA Camper Concept is designed to support extended off-grid adventures.

Integrated into the pop-up roof is a 520W lightweight composite solar panel, capable of generating up to 2.6 kWh of electricity per day, based on an average of five hours of sunlight. This renewable energy system can:

  • Extend the vehicle’s electric driving range
  • Support off-grid autonomy
  • Power onboard camper equipment

The solar setup is designed to supply energy to features such as a 36-litre refrigerator, a portable shower, and the cabin temperature control system, enabling longer and more self-sufficient journeys.

Smart Interior Layout, Sleeping Area, and Lounge Space

Interior flexibility is a core strength of the STARIA Camper Concept. At the rear, the seats can fold completely flat at the push of a button, instantly transforming the cabin into a comfortable sleeping area for two occupants. This fast and intuitive conversion makes overnight stays simple and practical.

Inside the front of the cabin, the concept features two high-specification captain’s chairs that can rotate electrically through 180 degrees. When stationary, this creates a spacious, lounge-like social area, ideal for relaxing, dining, or socialising inside the vehicle. Combined with the pop-up roof, the rotating seats significantly enhance interior livability.

Privacy, Comfort, and Advanced Cabin Technology

To further enhance comfort, security, and privacy, Hyundai is exploring the use of electronically adjustable smart glass in the rear cabin area. This technology allows occupants to control transparency as needed, improving privacy while resting or camping and contributing to a more refined interior environment.

Hyundai STARIA Camper Concept: Shaping the Future of Electric Camper Vans

The Hyundai STARIA Camper Concept offers a clear glimpse into the future of electric camper vans in Europe. By combining zero-emission mobility, off-grid capability, and premium interior comfort, Hyundai is positioning STARIA as a potential benchmark in the emerging electric recreational vehicle segment.

If customer feedback proves positive, the concept could evolve into a production electric camper, redefining how European travellers experience long-distance journeys, sustainable tourism, and off-grid adventure.
