The highly anticipated unveiling of the new Hyundai NEXO is just around the corner. According to the Seoul Mobility Show Organizing Committee, Hyundai is set to showcase the next-generation NEXO at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show, which kicks off on April 3. This second-generation full-change model boasts a boxy exterior design and an upgraded fuel cell system, solidifying its position as a leading hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (FCEV).
A New Era for Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles
First introduced in 2018, the Hyundai NEXO has been a trailblazer in the hydrogen fuel cell segment. As Hyundai’s second-generation hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, the NEXO has consistently delivered superior efficiency, performance, and durability compared to its predecessor, the Tucson FCEV. The new NEXO is poised to take these attributes to the next level, featuring cutting-edge technology and a refined design. Following its unveiling on April 3, the new NEXO is slated for release in the second quarter of 2025.
Design Inspired by the Initium Concept
The new NEXO draws inspiration from Hyundai’s INITIUM concept car, which was revealed last year. This influence is evident in its boxy yet modern silhouette, reminiscent of the newly redesigned Hyundai Santa Fe. The vehicle’s striking headlamp design, integrated daytime running lights, and a continuous lighting bar connecting the left and right headlamps give it a futuristic appearance.

At the rear, the NEXO adopts the distinctive four-square rear lamp design from the INITIUM concept, adding to its unique aesthetic appeal. Inside, Hyundai has crafted a spacious and high-tech cabin, leveraging its 27 years of expertise in hydrogen fuel cell technology. The interior features a large, intuitive display, a column-type gear lever, and dual smartphone wireless charging, enhancing both convenience and comfort for drivers and passengers alike.
Performance and Efficiency Enhancements
Performance-wise, the new NEXO is expected to mirror the impressive specifications of the INITIUM. With an enhanced hydrogen tank storage system and aerodynamically optimized wheels, the INITIUM boasts an extended driving range of over 650 km on a single charge. The NEXO is anticipated to achieve similar efficiency, making it a top choice for eco-conscious consumers. Additionally, the electric motor delivers a maximum output of 205 horsepower, ensuring a balance of power and sustainability.
To further enhance user experience, the new NEXO will come equipped with advanced features such as indoor/outdoor Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, dedicated navigation, and a suite of smart connectivity options.
