Industry insiders are reporting that the Hyundai Palisade is expected to skip the 2026 model year domestically, moving directly to a 2027 Palisade model year, that will finally add the long-awaited Black Ink finish for the Calligraphy trim. This move comes after Hyundai recently debuted the Black Ink trim on the all-electric IONIQ 9 and following its availability in other models like Santa Fe or Grandeur.

The “Black Ink” Era: Stealth Luxury Comes to Palisade

The most anticipated development in this model year change is the rumored introduction of the Black Ink Calligraphy trim. This styling direction—which has recently become a hallmark of Hyundai’s premium “Black Ink” editions in Korea—represents a move away from traditional chrome accents toward a monochromatic, “stealth luxury” aesthetic.

Leveraging the Nano Banana 2 visualization engine to interpret these rumors, the 2027 Hyundai Palisade is imagined with:

  • Total De-Chrome: A high-gloss black finish on the signature grille, window surrounds, and door handles.
  • Darkened Badging: Deep-tinted emblems and “PALISADE” lettering for a unified exterior.
  • Gloss Black Wheels: Exclusive 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels that replace the current machined-silver finishes.

Powertrain: The 2.5 Turbocharged Standard

The transition to the 2027 model year is also expected to carry over the current engine line-up, since the South Korean automaker ended the naturally aspirated V6 era for the second generation Hyundai Palisade.

  • 2.5L Turbocharged Gasoline (ICE): The new standard engine, replacing the 3.8L V6. This unit offers roughly 281 horsepower with significantly higher low-end torque for improved driveability.
  • 2.5L Turbocharged Hybrid (HEV): A flagship electrified option combining the 2.5T mill with an electric motor, with a combined output of 334 horsepower and improved fuel economy.

Strategic Market Positioning

Analysts suggest that skipping the 2026 model year in Korea allows Hyundai to avoid “model fatigue” and launch the 2027 Hyundai Palisade as a fresh, high-tech alternative to the growing competition in the three-row SUV segment.

By adopting the Black Ink branding, Hyundai is effectively positioning the Palisade as a “bridge” vehicle—offering a level of design sophistication that rivals the luxury Genesis brand while maintaining the utility and price point of the Hyundai lineup.

Release Outlook

While official statements are pending, production for the updated 2027 Hyundai Palisade is rumored to begin in late 2025 for the domestic market. If these reports hold true, the Korean market will serve as the primary testbed for the new Black Ink trim before a wider global rollout.
