Confirmed during Kia’s 2026 CEO Investor Day, the automaker is officially preparing to enter one of North America’s most profitable and high-demand categories: the pickup truck market. With pickups representing approximately 20% of total automotive demand in the United States, this dedicated Body-on-Frame (BoF) model is designed to broaden Kia’s customer base and unlock significant new growth opportunities for the brand.+4

Electrified Innovation: The EREV Pickup

Kia’s entry into the segment will not rely on traditional combustion engines alone. Instead, the pickup will feature a sophisticated powertrain strategy built entirely on electrified performance to meet the evolving needs of U.S. truck buyers. A dedicated Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) variant is central to this strategy.+1

  • Advanced Propulsion: The EREV model will utilize a generator-motor system to provide long-distance driving capabilities and smooth, high-torque performance of an electric drive without the infrastructure limitations of current BEV trucks.+1
  • Rugged Utility: Built on a dedicated Body-on-Frame architecture, this truck is designed to offer the towing capacity and rugged utility expected by U.S. consumers while delivering superior efficiency through its proprietary electrified system.

Production at HMGMA and U.S. Launch Timeline

To maximize competitiveness and navigate regional trade policies, Kia plans to produce the new pickup at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) facility. This localized production is key to Kia’s plan to increase its North American production ratio to 67% by 2030.+2

  • Market Launch: The dedicated EREV pickup is scheduled for a U.S. market launch in 2029.+1

By 2030, pick-up trucks are projected to represent 9% of global automotive demand, making the U.S. market the primary driver for Kia’s success in this new segment
