Korean giant Kia is expected to produce a turbocharged GDi Kia Rio hot hatch to combat the Volkswagen Polo GTI. Speaking with CarAdvice at the Geneva Motor Show, the company’s European head of powertrain development, Joachim Hahn, all but confirmed a turbocharged Rio was on the way.

According Car and Driver, a second aperture is planned for the left side, bringing the total door count up to a more conventional five. The second driver’s side door is reportedly being installed for markets like the UK, where the driver sits on the wrong other side (a similar problem to what Mini found with the Clubman). But that addition could be destined for the US market as well.

The Kia Grand Carnival has been upgraded for the 2012 model year, with a new diesel engine, revised line-up and new specifications and prices. The short wheelbase Kia Carnival S has been dropped from the local line-up, and along with it goes the 2.7-litre V6 petrol engine.

Called i45, the Australian version of Hyundai’s Sonata mid-size sedan has received a new engine that becomes the new entry point for the range. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine delivers a maximum output of 121kW (162 horsepower) at 6,200 rpm and a peak torque of 198Nm at 4,600 rpm, and is mated to either 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmissions.

Aunque ya lo hemos visto mil y una veces, la novedad se encuentra en que Hyundai ha desnudado definitivamente al i40 CW en Corea del Sur. Hace poco lo vimos con mucho camuflaje encima, pero con la llegada del buen tiempo, le han quitado todas las lonas de encima.
Aunque por el momento Kia no se ha pronunciado, varios medios coreanos ya anuncian que el Kia Optima europeo se retrasará hasta Septiembre. Como ya sospechabamos desde hace un tiempo, aquel rumor parece haberse convertido en realidad. Los problemas de Kia para abastecer el mercado europeo con el nuevo sedan serian los motivos del retraso.
