After Hyundai Motor revealed the exterior design and a few details of its new flagship premium sedan codenamed ‘AG’ – scheduled to debut in South Korea later this year – at the 2014 Busan International Motor Show, we receive a new spy pictures confirming that Hyundai continue finishing the development.

[ads id=”0″ style=”float:left;padding:9px;”]At this time, the FWD luxury sedan is testing without camouflage, just with black front and rear bumpers (this could confirm a diesel variant, like in the Sonata spy shots). The ‘AG’ is an elegant large sedan that underlines Hyundai Motor’s position as a manufacturer of premium vehicles, offering distinctive styling.

Displaying an elegant yet simple exterior, ‘AG’ continues the modern interpretation of Fluidic Sculpture 2.0, with a distinctive long hood, and a refined character-line that runs the length of the wheelbase.

This finally new front-wheel drive (rumors said will be RWD) flagship sedan will offer quiet and sophisticated driving comfort, while adopting a series of advanced convenience features.

It’s pretty clear to me this is a refresh of the Azera. The lines of the car from the rear 3/4 view are Azera. It needs to follow the new design language so the front area, rear lights, and I’m sure the much needed dashboard redesign are in the works so it doesn’t look worse than the new Sonata. It will have similar design as the new Sonata just like both cars last generation, except it will be more luxurious looking to justify the higher price point.

The rumors for the AG were always FWD and being larger and more luxurious than the Azera.

The upcoming RWD is the RK compact sedan.

IMHO, the Azera should at this point be discontinued. It really doesn’t sell well despite being a neat package. I’d rather Hyundai move the Sonata a bit upmarket such that it looks premium compared to its competitors like the Accord, Camry etc. If Hyundai is making an RK RWD, their really is no need for this.

Will it? Drive and handle better? Will it…be more fuel efficient? Will it offer innovations over the competition? Will it lead as best in class? I’m getting impatient about Hyundai only being “competitive”. Hyundai needs to can the marketing vapor and start taking the lead already.
