Despite the succes in North America, Kia are very concerned about sluggish sales on its local market (during 2017 they sold 250 units a month while in January 2018 sold only 96 units).
For example, during 2017 in the US-market, Kia has sold 115,512 units. That is why Kia has been actively reflecting local customer tastes through surveys for design and safety/convenience preferences.
Despite gasoline and diesel engines, the future Kia Soul will also have an EV variant and this will be based on the common platform and next-generation battery that was developed for the Hyundai Kona EV/Kia Niro EV, so this means than can have more than 300 km of autonomy. An extended range model like with the Kona (470 km) is not confirmed yet.
