What we know so far?
Kia will offer a Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid variants. As well, a Fuel Cell variant is under study as the Sorento SUV, whose higher price can justify the cost of the fuel cell power pack, is highly likely to be the beneficiary of a hydrogen-powered option.
Kia already has a fuel cell car on sale in Korea, but this model is not sold in U.S or Europe. “We are looking at a fuel cell, in the future, in a bigger car,” says Artur Martins, Kia Motors Europe Marketing Vice President “but it depends a little bit on how the European market goes. It works better on a bigger car because the customer is prepared to pay more on a bigger car.”

Also we have a lot of new details that confirms his words. The next generation Sorento will debut during before the end of 2019. These are the very first spy shots of the next generation Sorento SV which is expected as a 2020 Kia Sorento Model Year in the US-market. It will be a full model change, not a facelift, with a completely new design.
One of the special characteristic of this new model that we are able to see despite the big layer of camouflage is the Tiger Nose grille. The grill shape follows what we have seen on the latest SUV from Kia, the Telluride, a model that according to Kia executives will share its angular body shape with the next gen Sorento & Sportage.

And looking at the pictures we can confirm that this is truth and the next-gen 2020 Kia Sorento will change from the more rounded design of the current one to a more angular & with more straight lines, like what we have seen on the Telluride.
On the powertrain side, despite the future Hybrid & Plug-in Hybrid variants will use the latest technology from Hyundai-Kia, including the Solar Panels charging system on the roof, no more details have been disclosed yet.
