What we know so far?
A pair of camouflage vehicles, believed to be the successor of the Niro eco-friendly crossover (codename SG2) was captured inside of a parking lot in South Korea. The original Niro (codenamed as DE) was released at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show and available first as a Hybrid vehicle, later on arrived the Plug-in Hybrid and also a fully electric variant called e-Niro.
The 1st generation Niro was based on the Kia Niro concept car launched at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, and it took 3 years to arrive into a production model. Niro sales in Europe reached 57.337 units in 2019 while in the United States accumulates 24,467 units in the same full year.
At a first glance, could be difficult to know which vehicle is it, but if you take a closer look to the spy pictures and compare it to the Habaniro concept car pictures, released at the 2019 New York Auto Show, you will find some resemblances all around the camouflaged vehicle.
The Niro prototype looks pretty similar to Habaniro concept car

For example, the headlight design separated up and down looks very similar to the Habaniro concept car. At first sight, the front design looks pretty similar to latest generation of the Kia Soul. Looking at the side design, the side window lines follows the same lines as the concept car, like with the C-pillar.
The key to known this is Niro succesor is in the back. The tailights design that we are allowed to see in the camouflaged vehicle had the same design as the Habaniro.
If you look at the pair of pictures above and below, you will see it despite they tried to hide the rear design and ceiling drop, you can clearly see the same taillight design moved into the production car.
So following the first gen Niro timelapse between the concept car release and production version announcement, the second generation Kia Niro should arrive by end of 2021 or earlier 2022 depending on the markets.
