Today Kia Sweden confirmed more details of the second generation Kia Niro before opening pre-order. According to the press release, the All-New Niro EV or e-Niro will have up to 463km of electric range in the WLTP cycle.
The Kia Niro is a success with almost 40,000 registered cars in Sweden since the launch of its 1st generation back in 2016. The model has been Sweden’s best-selling car for several month while Kia e-Niro also tops the list of best-selling electric cars.
The all-new Kia Niro combines a high level of technology with exceptional user-friendliness that makes the step easy to take for those customers who want to drive an electrified car. Under the completely redesigned and daring design, there is a lavish and spacious interior that provides comfort and flexibility to the occupants. The driver layout is easily accessible and the interface is logical via the dual 10.25-inch screens and multifunction panel that brings together the most important controls.
The new Kia Niro has grown on all measures, including the distance between the wheel axles, which has been extended to 2,720 millimeters. Increased exterior dimensions and longer wheelbase mean a more spacious interior, which can be seen in the rear seat, which has more legroom. The luggage compartment has also grown, the Kia Niro Hybrid holds 451 liters while the Niro Plug-In Hybrid holds 348 liters. The Niro EV is the bigger of the trio with up to 495 liters (including for the first time in the model a “frunk” of 20 liters under the hood).
The Kia Niro Hybrid has an electric motor of 32 kW (44 hp) that works together with a 1.6 GDI petrol engine of 105 horsepower. Together, they generate 141 horsepower that reaches the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Fuel consumption has not yet been determined, but the driveline has been streamlined. The Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid combines the 1.6-liter GDI petrol engine with a new, more powerful 62 kW electric motor that together delivers 183 horsepower.
The lithium-ion polymer battery has grown to 11.1 kWh (cf. the current 8.9 kWh) and the preliminary range is stated to be up to 60 kilometers on one charge. Kia Niro EV has an electric motor of 150 kW and 255 Nm in maximum torque and the battery of 64.8 kWh provides a range of up to 463 kilometers of emission-free driving according to preliminary figures pending homologation.
With fast charging under optimal conditions, it takes 43 minutes to charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent. Three equipment levels – generous standard design The new Kia Niro is offered in three different versions: Action, Advance and Advance Plus. Action is generously equipped with dual 10.25-inch screens, navigation and reversing camera, keyless entry system, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Highway Driving Assist (HDA) and Safe Exit Assist (SEA) that prevent rear seat passengers from getting out of the car by locking the rear doors if a vehicle is approaching from behind.
Advance has, among other things, artificial leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, Harman Kardon sound system, active blind spot warning and electrically operated tailgate. Advance Plus has, among other things, auto brake when reversing, remote controlled parking, head-up display, driver’s seat with memory function, Relaxation (sleep mode) passenger seat and wireless mobile charging.
