The Kia Georgia assembly plant reached a definitive turning point in its storied history this Tuesday, celebrating a “triple milestone” that underscores the facility’s evolving role in the global automotive landscape. The highlight of the ceremony was the rollout of the first 2027 Kia Telluride, a vehicle that serves as a three-fold symbol of achievement: it is the 5 millionth vehicle produced at the West Point site, the official start of productionfor the redesigned 2027 model, and—most significantly—the first hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) ever assembled in the state of Georgia.
A Strategic Leap into Electrification
The introduction of the 2027 Telluride HEV marks a major shift in Kia’s domestic manufacturing strategy. While the plant has long been a powerhouse for internal combustion engine (ICE) production, this launch represents Kia’s first U.S.-assembled hybrid.
“As the only plant in the world that builds Telluride, today represents far more than the launch of a vehicle,” said Sean Yoon, President and CEO of Kia North America and Kia America. “It reflects the strength of our West Point team, the trust of our customers, and Kia’s commitment to building the future of mobility here in Georgia.”
Yoon emphasized that reaching the 5-million-unit mark while simultaneously debuting the state’s first HEV is a testament to Kia’s trajectory toward a diversified, electrified lineup.
A Cornerstone of the Southeast Automotive Corridor
Since its inception in 2009, Kia Georgia has grown from a regional newcomer to a cornerstone of the Southeastern manufacturing economy. The Telluride, arguably the brand’s most successful flagship to date, has been exclusively manufactured in West Point since 2019.
Governor Brian P. Kemp, who attended the milestone ceremony, highlighted the strength of the public-private partnership that has sustained this growth.
“This success story is the direct result of our proven partnership approach to creating long-lasting relationships between Kia Georgia, the local community, and our entire state,” Governor Kemp stated. “As they continue to innovate and invest in the future, I am proud to congratulate the Kia Georgia team on this historic moment.”

Versatility and Talent: The Road to 5 Million
The scale of production at West Point is not merely a matter of automation, but a reflection of the adaptability of its workforce. Stuart Countess, President and CEO of Kia Georgia, noted that the plant’s ability to pivot between gasoline-powered vehicles, EVs, and now HEVs is its greatest competitive advantage.
“Five million vehicles do not happen by chance,” Countess said. “They are the result of the teamwork that the Kia Georgia team has become famous for. These milestones belong to the team, and we are proud to continue building the future together here in West Point.”
