As part of its aggressive “Exponential Growth Strategy” unveiled during the 2026 CEO Investor Day, Kia has confirmed the upcoming launch of a dedicated B-segment hatchback EV. This model is strategically positioned to capture high-volume demand in Western Europe, where B-segment vehicles represent one of the largest and fastest-growing categories in the passenger EV market.
The First-Ever SDV Model
The defining feature of this new hatchback is its role as Kia’s first-ever SDV (Software-Defined Vehicle). Unlike traditional models where software is added to existing hardware, this vehicle is built from the ground up to support a unified software architecture.
- SDV Architecture (CODA): The vehicle will be built on the proprietary CODA architecture and the Pleos Connect infotainment platform.
- Agentic AI Integration: Customers will experience the next generation of in-car interaction through Gleo AI, an agentic system capable of autonomously planning and executing tasks on behalf of the user.
- App Ecosystem: Through the Pleos App Market, the vehicle transforms into a central hub for an intelligent, connected lifestyle.

Strategic Importance and Market Launch
Kia aims to use this B-segment hatchback to attract new customers and accelerate mass EV adoption. The model is essential for Kia to reach its goal of a 6% segment market share by 2030 in the European B/C EV categories.
- Production and Timeline: Production preparation for the brand’s first SDV car is expected to be finalized by late 2027, with a formal market introduction scheduled for 2028.
- Regional Focus: While the B-segment hatchback is a primary focus for Western Europe, the underlying SDV technologies will progressively expand across Kia’s global vehicle lineup.
By integrating advanced autonomous driving functionalities and software-centric features, this B-segment EV represents Kia’s transition from a traditional manufacturer into a Sustainable Mobility Solutions Provider.
