The most important change for the 2012 Soul is the presentation of a new 1.6-liter petrol gasoline direct injection (GDi) engine and a revised version of the 1.6-liter CRDi, both hooked up to a six-speed manual gearbox that replaces the previous five-speed unit. Finally we test drove the long waited from Kia, the All-New 2012 Kia Rio. The “sub-compact” from the Korean automaker renews it making a new generation, adopting the new image already seen in the last models from Kia, like the Sportage, Picanto and the Optima (that finally will come to Europe on the begginings of 2012).

The first phase of the European “Car of the Year 2012” [COTY] award has been completed with the announcement of the 35 candidates eligible to participate in the voting process. As with prior events, in order to be a nominee, the contenders had to be new vehicles available now or before the end of this year in five or more European markets, and each has to have the prospect of a minimum of 5,000 annual sales. A surprise on the Death Valley roads, courtesy of a reader from AlVolante.it caught a new mid-size MPV developed by Hyundai. According to current models of Korean symbols, this van could be called i55 and should be officially presented at the Los Angeles AutoShow, scheduled for 18 to 27 November 2011 (or at most in Detroit in January). Hyundai Motor Group, the umbrella company that includes Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Corp., plans to launch a Kia-badged small electric vehicle by year end and follow with more EVs starting in 2014, the company said this week. (more…)
