Genesis, Hyundai Motor Group’s luxury brand, has announced that cumulative global sales of the Genesis G80 have reached an impressive 496,000 units, putting the model on the verge of the 500,000-unit milestone. As the flagship premium sedan, the G80 has been instrumental in driving the brand’s growth, accounting for approximately 36% of Genesis’ total cumulative sales of 1.36 million units worldwide.

In the domestic market (South Korea), the G80 continues to demonstrate strong performance, averaging over 3,000 units in monthly sales. From January to April 2025, the G80 recorded 14,571 units sold, outperforming the GV70 (11,687 units) and GV80 (11,189 units) during the same period.

Driving Electrification and Hybrid Expansion

The G80’s success aligns closely with Genesis’ electrification strategy. The brand already offers electrified versions of the G80, GV70, and GV60, with updated versions of the GV70 and GV60 launched earlier this year. Additionally, the high-performance GV60 Magma is in the pipeline.

Looking ahead, Genesis is preparing for the debut of its first hybrid model in 2026. The advanced TMED-II hybrid system, which debuted in the All-New Hyundai Palisade, will be integrated into both the GV80 and G80. This move underscores Genesis’ commitment to expanding eco-friendly options across its lineup.

Moreover, the upcoming GV90, Hyundai Motor Group’s first F-segment electric SUV, will further bolster the brand’s electrification roadmap—targeting the growing large EV SUV market and solidifying Genesis’ position as a leader in electric luxury mobility.

Strengthening North American Presence with U.S. Production

To enhance its global footprint, Genesis is reinforcing its presence in North America by localizing production. The Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia, USA, is being scaled up to support both electric and hybrid vehicle production.

This strategic move is already showing results. Genesis’ U.S. sales jumped from 1,623 units in January 2025 to 8,076 units in April—a nearly five-fold increase in just four months.

Local production in Georgia is expected to:

  • Mitigate the impact of the 25% U.S. tariff on imported cars (enforced in April 2025),
  • Lower production costs, and
  • Accelerate market expansion of Genesis electrified models, particularly the G80.

Final Thoughts

As it approaches the 500,000-unit sales mark, the Genesis G80 stands as a cornerstone of the brand’s identity—fusing elegance, innovation, and cutting-edge technology. With aggressive electrification plans, hybrid expansion, and a robust North American strategy, Genesis is set to solidify its presence in the global luxury car market well into the future.
