Hyundai Motor Company and Kia have set a new sales record in the United States, achieving their biggest third-quarter performance ever with a combined total of 480,175 units sold, marking a 12% year-on-year increase.
September Sales Surge: Hyundai and Kia Outperform Expectations
In September alone, the two Korean automakers sold 143,367 units, representing a 12.1% increase compared to the same month last year.
- Hyundai (including Genesis) sold 77,860 vehicles (+12.8% YoY).
- Kia recorded 65,507 vehicle sales (+11.2% YoY).
This strong performance comes despite recent U.S. tariffs, showcasing Hyundai and Kia’s resilience and effective market strategies.
Eco-Friendly Vehicles Lead the Growth
A major driver of this growth is the booming demand for eco-friendly models, including hybrids and EVs.
- Total eco-friendly sales reached 135,547 units in Q3 — up 54.5% year-on-year.
- Hybrid vehicle sales jumped 54.6%, reaching 958 units.
- Electric vehicle sales rose 54.4%, hitting 45,488 units.
Notably, Hyundai and Kia set a new monthly EV sales record in September, selling 17,269 electric vehicles — just as the U.S. government’s $7,500 EV tax credit program came to an end.

Third Quarter Record: 480,000+ Units Sold
The Q3 2025 performance marks a historic milestone for both brands:
- Hyundai (including Genesis): 260,538 units (+12.7%)
- Kia: 219,637 units (+11.1%)
- Genesis: 21,469 units (+6.7%)
This is the best third quarter ever for Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis individually in the U.S. market, further solidifying their presence as major players in the American automotive industry.
Strategic Pricing & Market Expansion Plans
To maintain this momentum, Hyundai announced significant price reductions for the 2026 IONIQ 5, slashing up to $9,800 (approx. 13.75 million KRW) off the price. Additionally, the company will offer its own $7,500 cash incentive for 2025 models, effectively offsetting the expiration of the federal EV tax credit.
Hyundai Motor America emphasized that its strategic focus is on expanding U.S. market share by boosting local production and sales efforts, ensuring competitive pricing and enhanced value for eco-friendly vehicles.
