현대차와 기아차가 2011~2013년형 대부분 모델의 연비를 하향 조정한다. 과장된 공인 연비가 두 제조사의 라인업 대다수에 영향을 미친 것으로 드러났기 때문이다.
기아차 미국법인(KMA)의 안병모 사장은 오늘 고객과 딜러에게 보내는 사과문을 통해 이번 조치로 이어진 절차상의 오해와 오류에 대해 사과했다. 이 공개 서한에서 안 사장은 딜러와 미디어를 대상으로 연비 표기를 다시 시작할 것이며, 더 중요한 것은 현재 및 이전 소유주에게 MPG 조정으로 인한 추가 연료 비용을 보상하겠다고 밝혔다.
이번 캠페인의 주요 영향 모델은 2012년형 현대 액센트, 2012/13년형 엘란트라, 2012/13년형 벨로스터(모두 EPA 추정 고속도로 40MPG로 평가됐으나 모델에 따라 36~38MPG로 하향 조정)와 기아차의 거의 모든 라인업(옵티마 하이브리드, 리오, 쏘울, 스포티지 및 GDi 엔진을 장착한 특정 쏘렌토 모델 포함)이다.
다만 해당 기아 모델들의 새로운 EPA 추정 연비는 아직 알려지지 않았다. 자세한 내용은 계속 업데이트할 예정이다.

댓글 4개I usually get better than the EPA estimates bu as much as 10 percent, I also deal with a lot of traffic backed up behind me and getting honked at when the light turns(for not taking off like in a drag race)

I agree. There are far too many variables to effect mileage. To state claims as they do actually leads to many people experiencing lower results than expected. Providing something that will equated to more accurate results that most people can likely achieve would be difficult, but should be worked towards.
