현대 기아의 미국 프리미엄 자동차 시장 합산 점유율이 제네시스 프리미엄 대형 세단의 강력한 판매에 힘입어 처음으로 10%를 넘어섰다.
Autodata에 따르면, 두 회사는 1분기에 미국에서 제네시스, 에쿠스, K900 프리미엄 세단을 총 7,566대 판매해 전년 대비 106% 증가했으며, 이는 해당 부문에서 10.4%의 시장 점유율을 차지한 것이다.
현대·기아 미국 딜러에서 판매되는 이 세 모델은 작년 1분기 미국 시장 점유율이 5%에 불과했으나, 올해 10.4%로 상승했다. 한편 두 제조사의 전체 미국 시장 점유율은 작년 7.9%였다.
작년 4월 미국에 출시된 제네시스는 1~3월 6,656대가 판매되며 전년 대비 251%라는 엄청난 증가율을 기록, 핵심 역할을 했다. 이는 BMW 5시리즈와 메르세데스-벤츠 E클래스에 이어 3위에 해당한다.
