현대자동차는 8월 24일 그랜저와 제네시스 사이를 채울 신형 대형 세단의 이름을 “아슬란”으로 확정했다고 밝혔다. 이르면 다음 달 초 출시될 예정이다. 아슬란은 터키어로 “사자”를 의미한다.
현대차 관계자는 “아슬란이라는 이름이 카리스마와 강인함을 연상시킨다는 점에서 최종 결정했다. 아슬란은 그랜저보다 크지만 제네시스보다는 작다. 그랜저와 플랫폼을 공유하기 때문에 높이와 너비는 그랜저와 동일하다. 전장 4.96m는 그랜저보다 약 5cm 길지만 제네시스보다 3cm 짧다”고 말했다.
엔진은 3.0리터와 3.3리터 V6 GDi 두 가지로, 2.4리터와 3.0리터인 그랜저보다 배기량이 크다. 가격대는 4000만 원 초중반 수준으로 책정될 예정이다. 이 모델은 올해 5월 부산모터쇼에서 처음 공개됐다. 회사에 따르면 이 모델은 국내 전용으로, 해외 시장 출시 계획은 없다.
현대차는 신형 모델이 BMW 5시리즈, 메르세데스-벤츠 E클래스, 아우디 A6 등 수입 모델에 맞서 자사 영역을 방어할 것으로 기대하고 있다. 회사 관계자는 “독일 프리미엄 세단을 선호하는 고객을 겨냥해 소음과 진동을 최대한 줄이는 데 집중했다”고 말했다.

댓글 5개Umm product overlap? If this is competing with the E-Class and 5 Series, is the Genesis supposed to now fight the S and 7? Where does that leave the Equus, in Rolls territory?! Kill the Azera/Granduer and keep this to fight the Avalon's etc in its place.
As far as we know, i believe this car is only for China correct? So there really wouldn't be any product over lap since the "Granduer" isn't sold in China (might be wrong though, not familiar with Hyundai's China Market).

I know that Hyundai is South Korean. I was just stating that i thought this was a China only vehicle, similar to what buick is doing with certain models.
