Another great weekend for the Kia Racing team, been able to get 3 trophies on Saturday and then 1 more trophy on Sunday.
On Saturday the race started at 3:55pm for the Kia Optima Turbo with Nic Jönsson and Mark Wilkins in 2nd and 3rd at the grid from the qualifying race yesterday.
Both Optimas were doing great keeping up with the Porsche Cayman holding the first position but on lap 17 the race had a yellow flag for the following next lap.
Once on lap 19 Nic Jönsson tried to make a pass to the Porsche Cayman but unfortunately hit the Porsche Cayman doing some damage to his Optima.
Immediately after that small accident with the Porsche, Mark Wilkins took that opportunity and took the first position and kept it until the end of the race.
This will be the 1st place trophy for Wilkins on this 2014 season but also second trophy won in Alabama.
At 5:00pm we follow up with TCA class, having drivers Jason Wolfe and Russell Smith on their new Kia Koup Turbo. This been the first season and race for both Koup turbo cars.
Wolfe and Smith started on the 3rd and 5th position at the grid. The Koups, for been their first time at the circuit, did a great job keeping up with the more experience cars.
Jason Wolfe was able to keep the 3rd position and get the first trophy for the Kia Koups turbo in the season. I’m sure this will be the first of many trophies we will see in this 2014 season from Jason and Russell.
Early Sunday at 10am the GTS Kia Optimas were ready once again to pump more adrenaline for their drivers.
Nic Jönsson and Mark Wilkins started at 3rd and 5th at the grid.
After couple crashes from the Ford mustang at the beginning of the race, driver Nic Jönsson was able to keep the 2nd position winning another trophy for the Kia Racing team.
The next race will be for the guys with the Koup Turbo at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park on Friday, May 16 – Sunday, May 18.
At the end of the month we have the Optima turbos running at Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix for round 5 and 6 on Friday, May 30 – Sunday, June 01.
We are very excited for the Kia, Kia Racing and Kinetic Motorsports accomplishment this past weekend. The Korean Car Blog staff are very proud of you guys and I’m sure many Kia and Hyundai car enthusiast are as well.
