Today we want to share with you new spy pictures of the 2016 Kia Sportage (codenamed as QL) thanks to our follower Jimbo ;).

[ads id=”0″ style=”float:left;padding:9px;”]The latest reports placed the debut for September, a few months after due to the launch of the new Tucson.

The new 2016 Kia Sportage will resemble a lot of the design showed in the chinese only Kia KX3, especially the front end. Inside, the Sportage will follow what we have already seen into the new Sorento. According to the report, Kia design team already finished Sportage’s design.

At the front on this prototype we can see a bigger Tiger-nose tri-dimensional front grille between new wrap-around headlamps and ice-cubed LED lights, like in the new Sorento or pro_cee’d GT, but at the same time, Kia used the same solution on the K5 Modern adding a spherical three LED on the headlights. At the rear end, newly designed LED taillights will be mixed with separated reverse and indicators lights like in the current model.

About engine line-up, 7-speed dual clutch transmission will be available at launch besides a choice of gasoline direct injection and diesel engines, plus small turbo engines. In the diesel side, improved 1.7 CRDi 131 hp could be the most desired into European market. About the petrol engines, the 1.6 GDi will be the base engine, while a turbo variant will offer more power for European spec model. About an all-new small turbo engine, the 1.2 T-GDi delivering 132 hp is not confirmed yet.

South Korea line-up will be reduced to 1.7 CRDi available with 7-speed DCT & 2.0 CRDi diesel engines, plus a 2.0 T-GDi engine.

Hallo all together. I almost thought that this blog has died. but it seems that it still lives fortunately.
As i already mentioned before : Every new interior of KIA vehicles built from 2012 on is high quality and beautiful. What is more important here is the exterior. Will it be like the ugly pseudo porsche front of the KX3 or do KIA has still a chance to build beautiful cars? Thats the question here. But i have the feeling that it wont be long to get the pictures of the exterior here.

I think it looks really good the camo on, might as well leave it like that instead of the kx3 front lol

As i already wrote here: Even your posted picture of the Rio JBs front looks better then the new Optimas front and of course the KX3 front.
It has the original KIA design mentality. For that time it was a good design.

The best looking KIA front ( and anything else) at the moment is the new Sorentos front. It has the most beautiful headlights showing beauty and seriousness at the same time. That kind of fronts is what KIA needs for all the other models. And then look to KIAs top ranking in terms of selling figures

    KIA forever.

      Best Kia front fascias:

      – new Sorento
      – old Optima SX/XL
      – cee’d/Pro_cee’d GT
      – even tho a concept – the Sportspace

Some of the new Kia designs have been a step backwards:

      – new Optima
      – Forte
      – KX3
      – presumably new Sportage (based on spy shots)

If other Kia models (other than the new Forte) get a Novo-inspired front-end, would swing back to the positive.

Just hope Kia designers do a good job with the front end of the GT.

You got to add the new Sedona. That’s a step up.
I can understand why many think the new Optima’s front fascia is a step backwards after seeing the Novo concept and popular midsize production car revealed at the same time.

Kia designers probably wanted to do something different, but the Sportage will go from being one of the best looking smaller CUVs to one that is polarizing.

The Tucson will now be the better looking of the 2.

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve been planing to upgrade my new Ceed to either the 2016 Sportage or the new Tucson. I would have loved to stay with KIA. But I’m worried that the new Sportage will be a Porsche knockoff rather than the original and unique SUV that it is today. I’m so glad the new Tucson looks the way it does (mini Santa Fe). Will leave the final decision until I see the next Sportage up close. But I’m not holding my breath.

Change the grill to the “tiger-nose” and the new Tucson would pretty much look like a Kia.

Might also hold off and check to see if the Niro (if a hybrid/plug-in is your thing) crossover looks less funky than the new Sportage.

Btw, jealous that you guys get the cee’d/Pro_cee’d (still one of the best-looking Kia, much less hatches around).

I would like to know what this Niro prototype is all about. There are rumours about a hybrid chubby Ceed. There is also the possibility of it being a less ugly KX3. C pillar looks like KX3. But I’m hoping its front grill will have a redesign for Europe. We’ll find out in a few months.
