This technology will be named as “e-4WD” and it will be mounted on the rear wheel of the SUVs. The system will transmits the power to the rear wheels only, while the petrol engine will move the front wheels.

A regenerative braking system to charge the battery with the energy generated at the time of deceleration will be mounted. Recently Hyundai Wia was started the final stage of the e-4WD system development scheduled for next year’s production.

The system may be mounted on the Hyundai Motor’s main SUV, the Santa Fe and after that on the latest generation Kia Sorento launched few days ago at the LA AutoShow. The e-4WD system can be selectively controlled from the interior.

A Hyundai source said, “The company will focus its energy on the hybrid market because it’s thought to have greater potential than the electric vehicle market where you have to build recharging stations and other infrastructure.”

That’s why Hyundai & Kia will expand its hybrid line-up starting with the new generation Sonata Hybrid to be launched in December.
